. . . in Camden County's Legislative District 5 (LD5) less than 30% of high school students are reaching or exceeding proficiency in Math, per the New Jersey learning assessments?

In the cities of Camden, Pennsauken and Deptford, the NJ test assessments show that less than 15% of the students are meeting the standard for Math. Less than 30% are meeting the NJ standard for English Language Arts proficiency.

For the entire state, 52.2% of NJ students are meeting or exceeding the our state's expectations in Language Arts, and 39.6% are meeting the state's expectations in Math.

How much and how long can we blame the lockdowns in 2020 and 2021?

The state has added layers of coursework to the curriculum, along with a focus on social-emotional learning. Nor is the curriculum balanced in content -- it fails to present varying sides of political and cultural viewpoints. The curriculum has expanded its comprehensive health curriculum and added Gender Identity for students as young as 1st grade. It is the first state in the country to add Climate Change -- boht of which take even more time away from a crowded curriculum.

Basic skills in K-12 education is what our students need to succeed, not just in college but in the trades, which should have equal emphasis.
